I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am so thankful to be on this journey of following Jesus with you, and it was such a joy to get to learn from Pastor Ron last week. We sure have a lot to be grateful for.
As we now turn our attention toward Christmas, I long for this season to be peaceful and joy-filled, but it rarely is. More often than not, the Christmas season is chaotic, full of friction and frustrations that distract us from the true focus of Christmas.
But perhaps that’s not so different from the first Christmas. Mary and Joseph likely hoped for an uneventful birth, but what they experienced was far from ordinary. From a spiritual perspective, Jesus’ arrival was a bold invasion into enemy-occupied territory, and the enemy was not about to surrender without a fight.
This weekend, we’ll take a fresh look at the nativity story and uncover the deeper spiritual significance of Jesus’ birth. As we’ll see, the first Christmas was far from a “silent night.”
