I love how you have walked with me through this journey with cancer. So, please celebrate with me that my doctors confirmed again today that they were able to get the entire tumor which means that I am free of cancer. Kimberly and I were able to have a follow-up visit by Zoom this afternoon that was so encouraging. The conversation was all about moving forward, recovering, and healing from all I have been through. I do get to have another procedure to remove a stent they installed to help my new esophagus not to leak. I’ll let you know when that procedure gets scheduled.
I just want to reflect that my doctors are so competent and caring. Even though I was in a big hospital system like UCSF, I felt their personal concern. As I sat today and looked into the eyes of my main surgeon, Dr. Kratz, I could sense his care and concern, and he even made a joke which caused us all to laugh together.
The good news is that I was given the freedom to move to a soft-food diet for the next month. It’s still restrictive, but I have many more options to choose from as I try to keep my weight on. When you see me, you’ll notice that I lost quite a bit of weight during the past few weeks. This was totally expected. Now, the goal is to maintain that weight and even gain some back.
Right now, it’s hard for me to put into words how relieved I am. When the Bible says that “perfect love casts out all fear,” I believe it was meant for all the times of life when we feel scared and out of control. That verse makes me think of the power of God’s perfect love, but it also causes me to reflect on the love you’ve shown me during this classroom, journey, and season I’ve been through.
On Sunday, I went through all the cards I’ve received during the past seven months. I was overwhelmed to count over 375 cards with words of faith, encouragement, and hope. Your love expressed through your faith and belief really helped me to stand strong. Thank you so much for walking this road with me. I love you so much.
Here are some upcoming opportunities to SHARE LIFE and SPREAD HOPE to our family and community.
GROWTH PATH is one of the best ways to get to know our church and God’s mission for us here in Western Nevada County. This series of engaging seminars will help you know who we are and how you can find a place to call home as you grow to be more like Jesus. The next Growth Path is Sunday, December 5, 2:00-5:00pm. This is a great way to enter into the life of our church. You can register online or at church on Sunday.
HOLIDAY SERVE OPPS are in full swing. Let me encourage you to go to our website and look at all the ways we’re serving our community this holiday season. People tell us with deep appreciation that our engagement really boosts the hopes and spirits of those who are in desperate situations in these challenging times.
It’s YEAR-END GIFT time and I want to encourage you to give a special gift to our church as an act of worship and appreciation to God for how He has used TCC in your life over the past year. The beauty of this giving opportunity is that it allows us to generously serve even more people throughout the year. You can get more information on our website.
It’s not too late to sign up for BAPTISM on December 12. Let me encourage you if you’ve never been baptized, PLEASE consider following the example set by Jesus when He allowed Himself to be baptized in the Jordan River. This is the first step He took to signify the beginning of His mission to seek and save the world. If you want to express your faith in Jesus through baptism, send an email to Mare, and attend the class Sunday, December 5 at 9:00am. She will help you know everything you need.
THIS SUNDAY we continue our Advent series by focusing on reining in our purchases to SPEND LESS and enjoy a different side to our Christmas celebration. We have to purposefully choose to do Christmas in ways that allow us to have margin in our spending while leaving us without the mountain of debt that is often associated with Christmas over-spending.
