Over the past few weeks, we’ve been on a journey of discovering why God created us and how we can live our lives with purpose. So far, we’ve explored Genesis 1, where we see that God made us in His image to partner with Him in ruling over creation. He didn’t create us to be mere puppets but rather partners, inviting us to join Him in the unfolding of His world.
Last week, we also saw that while God designed us to work, He never intended for us to become slaves to our labor. He calls us to a healthy rhythm of work and rest— working alongside Him and then resting with Him.
This Sunday, we’ll move into Genesis 2, where the story zooms in on the sixth day of creation, highlighting the unique relationship God intended for us to have with Him and with one another. As we will see, God gave Adam and Eve the freedom to choose, just as He gives us today. But their decision to disobey set in motion consequences we still experience today.
The question we’ll wrestle with is this: Why would God give them a choice at all? And what does it mean for us today as we face the same invitation to trust Him or go our own way?
I look forward to unpacking this together on Sunday as we continue our exploration of what it means to live out our God-given purpose.
