We take the next steps in our walk toward unity this Sunday! Your comments each week are evidence that this series is speaking to us in ways that leave us surprised and excited about God’s Word and how it speaks to the issues we face in our world today. We’ve learned so much, and yet it’s not just about learning, it’s about becoming ONE.
Our ONE series is right out of the Apostle Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus where he reminds us to hold on to our identity in Jesus and the things that unite us and make us one. He wants us to walk in unity, and when we do we become a force of harmony and a witness for Jesus to all to whom we meet. This Sunday we get to look at what it means to have ONE HOPE. As we learned last weekend from Fritz Moga, unity is not a self-produced reality. It’s not about willing ourselves to treat one another better. Instead, it’s a Spirit-driven purpose. God places His Spirit in all who say YES to Jesus, and one of the roles of the Holy Spirit is to transform or shape us to look like Jesus. This Sunday we will focus on the fact that we are called to walk in unity because we have ONE HOPE. Hope does more than help us live with peace and joy, it’s also a powerful testimony of the life-changing power we know that comes from trusting in God.
Communion will be part of our gathering this weekend. Please spend time with God before you come to reflect on the gift Jesus is to you. You might even ask God to show you any sin in your life so you can confess and come before Him cleansed and eager to worship Him because of the gift of Jesus who died on the cross for you.
